Item Code: 1117-140

Horizontal quarter-plate image of two young men playing chess. The game board is laid on top of a cloth covered table. The board is made to look like a two-volume set of books when closed and not in use. The chess pieces are stored inside.

The player on the left looks intently at the situation on the gameboard. He wears a dark mechanic’s cap, medium color frockcoat, white vest with dark bowtie and light trousers. He holds a long-stemmed pipe in his hand while the other rests on the edge of the game board.

The player on the right is posed with his hand on a chess piece contemplating his move. He wears a light-colored low crown slouch hat, dark frockcoat, white shirt with striped bowtie and medium color trousers. He also holds a long-stemmed pipe in one hand.

Clarity and contrast are excellent. Quality of the image is outstanding.

View comes housed in a crosshatched mat with a raised scalloped interior border and the usual stamped brass frame.

Leather case has floral and swirl decoration. Interior edge of the wood frame of the case has separated from its mates and is held in place by the leather covering. Just a drop or two of glue will fix this minor problem.

Nice, high quality image.  [AD]
