This is a group of three images that show several generations of the same family. All images come with a slip of paper identifying each subject.

The first image in the group is a sixth-plate daguerreotype of an older couple. They are identified as Obed Robinson and his wife Charlotte Shipman Robinson. Both subjects are seated and posed with their hands on their lap. Obed wears the usual dark suit of the period while Charlotte wears a dark dress and shawl with a white bonnet. The image is clear and clean with good detail and comes housed in a full case with brass mat and frame.

Obed Robinson was born September 27, 1800 in Swanton, Vermont but later moved to New York. He died on August 13, 1870. It is only known that Charlotte died December 3, 1891. Both are buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Hammond, New York.

The second image in the group is a quarter-plate daguerreotype of a middle aged couple identified as Simeon Gray and his wife Betsy Gordon Gray. Both subjects are posed seated with their hands in their laps. Betsy is holding a floral covered album or book. Simeon wears a dark suit jacket with light trousers. He also wears a double-breasted plaid vest. Betsy wears a dark dress with white lace collar and long buttoned sleeves. The image is in excellent condition with only some light surface dirt in one corner. The image comes housed in a full cloth case with the plain brass mat and frame. The case shows some light surface wear to the outside and the red crushed velvet lining has a small split.

Simeon T. Gray was born November 30, 1827 and died December 16, 1891. The dates for Betsy’s life are not so sure. It is believed that she was born on June 2, 1813 and died May 5, 1870 but these dates may not be correct. Both are buried in Chippewa Street Cemetery in Hammond, New York.

The third and last image in the group is a sixth-plate daguerreotype of two young ladies wearing similar if not the same style dress. These young ladies are identified as Ruth Adelia Robinson Gray on the right and Phoebe Robinson Eddy on the left. Both are posed seated with their hands in their lap. Both wear a light colored dress with vertical stripes on the skirt with the same stripes running in a “V” shaped pattern on the bodice. Each wears a white ribbon in a bow at the neck with flowers in their hair. The image is in excellent condition, is clear and clean. Image comes housed in a full cloth case with a weak hinge and with a plain brass mat and frame.

Quick research on the two ladies finds that Ruth was born in June of 1837 in New York. In 1867 she married Elmer W. Gray who served in Company A, 14th New York Heavy Artillery from August 1863 to August 1865. The regiment served as infantry in the 9th Corps and was engaged in many of the battles during Grant’s Overland Campaign. Phoebe was born in 1832 and married Clark Eddy. She died January 10, 1908 and is buried in North Atkinson Cemetery, Atkinson, Maine.

This is a nice group of family images with a solid ID in very good condition.
