Image is very crisp and clear with great contrast. The subject cannot be more than 14 to 16 years old. His pose is rather Lincolnesque with one hand holding the lapel of his coat. The young subject is looking directly into the camera giving the viewer a great opportunity to look straight into this young soldier’s eyes. The subject wears a dark sack coat and matching dark military vest with watch and chain. The chain and all buttons have a touch of gilt while the areas of the cheeks and mouth have a hint of red.
As stated above the image is clear and bright but does have a few minor scratches around the subjects head. The image comes in a full brass mat with frame and is housed in a thermoplastic Union case with a raised acorn, leaf and scalloped design on the exterior.
