SIXTH PLATE TINTYPE OF OHIO SOLDIER WITH OVM PLATE

$275.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 282-308

Three-quarter seated view of a young Ohioan wearing a dark four-button sack coat and light trousers holding his forage cap in his lap. Around his waist is his belt with an oval “O.V.M.” plate worn upside down so the letters would come out in the right order in the reversed image. Unfortunately there is no insignia on his cap to help track down his regiment.

The subject’s cheeks have been lightly tinted red while the belt plate and buttons have a touch of gold gilt. Happily the photographer only outlined the letters on the belt plate instead of obliterating them with gilt paint. Under magnification they are clearly visible.

The image is in good condition with only light wear around the edges where the brass frame comes in contact with the plate. Image is clear but the contrast could be a little lighter. Photograph comes in a full thermoplastic Union case with a floral and leaf edge design and a large bunch of grapes at center. The case is dirty and has a small spot of gray paint on one edge, otherwise it is in nice shape with no chips.
