SIXTH PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE OF AN ENGLISH OFFICER

$325.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 731-695

Nice straight on view of a British officer standing with one hand tucked in his coat ala Napoleon. The subject wears a dark double-breasted coat with a large bow-tie and matching visor cap. The cap has two bands of gold braid around its base and some insignia on the crown. The photographer used gilt paint to highlight the buttons and insignia so any information that could have been discerned from them is gone.

The image is clear with good contrast. There is a ring around the edge following the border of the brass mat. The image comes with a brass mat and frame but no case. Most likely the image dates from the time of the Crimean War 1853-1856.
