SIXTH-PLATE TINTYPE OF TWO UNION SOLDIERS IN RAIN COATS

$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 129-13

Nice view of two Union soldiers seated side by side with their hands clasped in their lap. Each man wears an oilcloth raincoat. At first look both men appear to be wearing ponchos but upon closer inspection raincoats can be discerned. Both have turned down collars and long sleeves which ponchos lack. Also, though no buttons are visible, the soldier on the left has a discernible lapel line running down his front. One soldier wears a forage cap with a turned up bill while the soldier on the left has visible insignia that is either crossed cannons or sabers.

The image is clear with good contrast however there is some chipping along the right edge of the plate. It is located just above the shoulder of the subject on the right. Image comes housed in a full cloth case with brass frame and mat. The mat has one or two minor chips in the gilt.

This is a nice image of a seldom seen piece of Civil War clothing.
