NINTH PLATE TINTYPE OF YOUNG UNION SOLDIER

$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: P13526

This tintype shows a Union soldier from the waist up. Studying his face it appears that he cannot be more than 17 or 18 years old. He wears a Hardee hat with an Infantry hunting horn attached to the front, a dark frock coat with shoulder scales and a waist belt and plate. He also holds what looks to be a Model 1816 musket with sling and fixed bayonet. The Infantry insignia, shoulder scales, buttons and waist belt plate all have a touch of gilt paint.

The image is very clear with excellent contrast. It is housed in a plain brass mat and typical brass frame all encased in a thermoplastic Union case. The case has a motif of two children chasing butterflies. The exterior of the case is in excellent shape with no chips or cracks. It is very clean. The interior has a crushed red velvet pad with an urn and floral decoration.
