Full standing view of a young Union cavalrymen posed in front of a painted backdrop of a pastoral landscape. The subject wears a forage cap with oilcloth rain cover, dark cavalry shell jacket with Corporal stripes and light trousers. At his waist is his sword belt with rectangular plate and by his side is his cavalry saber.
Image is clear with good contrast. Image comes with a plain brass mat and decorative brass frame. The photograph is mounted in a half case with a broken edge. Inside of case are two inscriptions. One old and one modern that read “PRIVT. F. STEPHEN THOMAS / CO. E 11TH MI. CAV.” No one by that name can be found on the roster of that regiment.
Nice image despite the misidentification. [ad]
