Image shows a glum faced Union cavalryman posed in front of a painted backdrop of a fort on a hill overlooking a stream across which is a bridge leading to tents under some trees. The subject is posed with his saber drawn and being held by the hilt with the point down. The other hand holds the empty scabbard. The subject wears a dark forage cap, shell jacket and matching trousers. At his waist is his sword belt with rectangular plate and with the shoulder support strap attached. Jacket piping is visible but not tinted. Cheeks have a slight rose tinting.

The image is crystal clear with great contrast. Image comes with brass frame and mat in a split leather case with a geometric decoration on the exterior. Case surface shows some wear. [ad]
