PAIR OF 1/6 PLATE TINTYPES IN THERMOPLASTIC CASE

$95.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 30-2058

Case holds two sixth-plate tintypes, apparently six brothers. An image of three men on each side of the case. The two images feature the same plain back drop with top edge showing. The left image looks to be the older brothers. All with dark jackets, white shirts and fancy bow ties. All are seated. One of the older “brothers” holds a buggy whip. Images are still clear with good contrast. There is only one small chip in the emulsion, and that is on the nose of the far right man in the right hand image.

The images have matching copper mats and frames. Case is in excellent condition. The design along the edges is heavy scrollwork while at center is an oval formed by more classical geometric details with a central bouquet of flowers. Case is held together by two brass hinges. There is some very minor wear to corners but this is hardly noticeable.  Whole piece is tight and sound.  [jet]
