SEATED NINTH PLATE TINTYPE OF A WOUNDED SOLDIER

$650.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: P14000

Photos of wounded soldiers are scarce. Getting to a photographer from a hospital was probably not high any soldier’s agenda and it was probably a hard-case who would send the image home to worry the folks, though perhaps the message was that it could have been worse. This fellow has his left arm (tintypes reverse the image) wrapped in bandages and supported by a sling, worn under his coat. The piping on the coat collar suggests it is an infantry enlisted frock coat and you can just see the brass hunting horn infantry insignia on the front of his forage cap. He wears a moustache and goatee and has the look of a veteran. Posed seated, looking directly at the camera, and wearing his forage cap, he is all business.

The image is matted, glassed and framed in the case, which has a deep blue velvet facing pad. The image has good clarity with just a trace or solarization at right and some spotting in the upper area the does not affect the figure.  [sr]
