SIXTH PLATE TINTYPE OF A SEATED UNION SERGEANT IN PATRIOTIC UNION CASE

$250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1054-167

Waist-up seated view of a Union soldier wearing a dark jacket that looks to be a New York State shell jacket. It has cloth epaulettes on each shoulder and two buttons on each cuff. Clearly visible on the sleeves are Sergeant’s chevrons. All buttons are touched with gilt paint. Subject’s cheeks are lightly tinted.

Image is very clear with excellent contrast and no blemishes.

Brass mat is patriotic and decorated with US flags, a Navy vessel and an artillery piece. There is also a riband that reads “CONSTITUTION AND UNION.”

The union case itself has a very nice spread-winged perched on a US shield with a waving flag above it. The border of the front has scroll work with intertwined decoration of a star filled medallion, the bastion of a fort with a waving flag, a law book laying on top of a sword and a large Navy ship. The back of the case has a floral decoration.

Very good image in a wonderfully patriotic union case.  [ad]
