THREE-QUARTER SEATED VIEW OF A DOUBLE ARMED UNION SOLDIER

$395.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1054-166

Clear sixth plate tintype of a double armed Union soldier. He poses holding his musket across his chest with a pistol in his waist belt.

The subject wears a dark forage cap with upturned bill, a dark four-button sack coat and light trousers. For accoutrements he wears a cartridge box and sling with a gilted breastplate, a waist belt with cap box and gilted oval US plate with bayonet scabbard barely visible. Tucked in his belt is a pinfire revolver, possibly a Lefaucheux. He holds his import musket across his body in front of him.

Image is clear with good contrast and comes in a brass mat and frame with floral and scrollwork decoration.

Photo is housed in a union case whose exterior decoration consist of a seated Columbia resting against a patriotic shield and holding out a laurel wreath in her right hand. In the background are a Navy vessel and a railroad engine and on the ground beside her are a plow, anvil and wheel as well as an anchor leaning against a cotton bale and barrel. Case has a small chip to one corner otherwise it is perfect.

Very nice image in a first class union case. [ad]
