QUARTER PLATE TINTYPE OF FULL STANDING ARMED UNION SOLDIER

$135.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1054-84

Image shows a Union soldier standing with his musket at the position of “PARADE REST.”

The subject wears a dark forage cap and frockcoat with light trousers. He also wears his cartridge box and sling as well as his waist belt with oval plate, cap box and bayonet scabbard. In front of him is his Model 1861 Springfield with fixed bayonet.

Forage cap has side buttons and chinstrap buckle that are touched with gilt paint. Also gilted are all uniform buttons, the cartridge box breast plate, and waist belt plate and rifle triggerguard.

Image is clear but the contrast is dark. Despite the contrast all the details of the image are clearly visible. The image also has some spots and linear discolorations of a lighter color. None of this affects the subject.

The photo is housed in the usual brass mat and frame with scroll decoration and a full leather case with a hinge that has been repaired with brown plastic tape.  [ad]
