This is a very clear photograph of a Union cavalryman. This tintype is 1/9 plate in size and housed in a wonderful thermo-plastic case. The image is a waist up view of the trooper who wears a kepi, shell jacket, and is triple armed with a knife, a revolver, and his cavalry saber. The belt buckle, buttons, and jacket piping are gilted. Mated and framed with typical ornate copper materials that also hold the glass in place. Case is lined with crushed purple velvet. Thermo-plastic case is in very good condition with no cracks. Case halves are mis-matched but appear original. Front of case bears a raised military motif while the back half has typical geometric details. [jet]
