Item Code: 1043-204

Image shows two Union soldiers seated side by side. The soldier on the left wears a shirt with rolled up sleeves that is tinted a sky blue color. He also wears a dark bowtie and dark trousers. The soldier on the right is posed with one arm resting on the leg of his comrade. He wears a dark forage cap with a gold gilt regimental number on the front that could be a “29” or “39.” He wears a dark frock coat with gilt buttons that is closed only at the throat revealing a white shirt and dark bowtie underneath. This subject also wears dark trousers and has a sky blue tinted overcoat thrown over his shoulders.

Image has excellent clarity and good contrast and comes with a scroll decorated mat and stippled frame.

The Union case that houses the image is in excellent condition. The only visible blemish is on the side where the catch is. In this area there is a very tiny closed crack, otherwise both the front and back sides are immaculate. The decoration on the exterior is the same on both sides. A central medallion holds a bust of George Washington surrounded by “FIRST IN WAR, FIRST IN PEACE & FIRST IN THE HEARTS OF HIS COUNTRY MEN.” This medallion is within a square that has a five-pointed star in each corner with crossed flags and patriotic shield at top and a sword wrapped in a scroll and laurel branch at bottom. This is all surrounded by a border of interlacing laurel and stars. Case gives a very clean and bright appearance.  [ad]
