Image is a waist-up view of a middle aged Union Private seated with his hands in his lap. The unusual thing about this fellow is his facial hair. He lack a mustache or sideburns but the very bottom of his chin is covered with a large bushy beard. He wears a dark frock coat with buttons that have been touched with gilt. The subjects cheeks are also lightly tinted.
Image has good clarity but the contrast is a touch on the dark side.
Brass mat has a geometric floral design while the frame has the usual scrollwork.
Leather case is complete but the hinge is starting to separate. The exterior is in good shape with just a bit of wear near the closure hook. [ad]
