This is an uncased tintype of a seated Union naval officer. He is wearing a heavy single breasted frock with Fouled Anchor rating patch on sleeve. He also wears a military style, brass-buttoned vest. The dapper seaman also sports a fancy neck tie, beard, and a very long mustache. Very clear image. Stamped copper frame holds the image, glass and copper mat together.
In the mat, behind the tintype, is a 1/9 plate ambrotype, a seated 3/4 length view of a woman. It is not known how, or if, the two subjects are connected. [jet/lcd]
