Plain unmarked yellow mount with view of Harpers Ferry from the far side of the north side of the Potomac River. The view takes in the railroad bridge over the river with the town filling the background behind the bridge. View looks to be wartime.
Both halves of the stereo have great contrast and light to moderate surface dirt as does the mount. Lightly written in period pencil in the sky of the right hand view is “HARPERS FERRY.” Reverse of the mount has an old ink inscription that reads “VIEW OF S. HARPER’S FERRY.”
Harper’s Ferry is famous for being the site of John Brown’s 1859 raid and for changing hands numerous times during the war.
