During the Civil War, Old Abe, a young eagle, served as the mascot for the 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. He was carried into battle at the head of the troops, perched atop his wooden carrier. Later, his image was adopted as the eagle appearing on a globe in the logo of  J. I. Case agricultural equipment manufacturing company of Racine, Wisconsin, and as the screaming eagle on the insignia of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division.

Shows some wear to edges of mount, with missing section at lower right corner. There are also a few dark scrapes on the image on the right side, which extends somewhat into the head/neck are of the eagle.  No BM.  . [ld]
