An old dilapidated paper card with wire attached dug relics noted “From near Burnsides bridge Antietam “. This assemblage contains: 4 each .58 caliber three ring (both fired and dropped examples) bullets, 1each .36 caliber conical pistol bullet, 1each, U.S. two blade combination nipple wrench /screw driver musket tool and a lead type cap pouch or cartridge box finial with a remaining fragment of leather still attached. Also included in this grouping, is a VERY SCARCE specimen of a Confederate, 6th Infantry North Carolina State Troops, waist belt plate. It is known that the entire 6th North Carolina Regiment was issued these plates before they marched off to Virginia in 1861. This particular plate (Sand cast in solid brass) shows signs of a casting flaw within the number 6, as being partly filled in. The reverse side shows the three soldered points where the belt hooks were originally placed, with one hook still remaining. Most of the items are loose from the wires meant to attach them to the cardboard, including the plate.
