Excavated example of the U.S. infantry cartridge box plate recovered on the battlefield northwest of Manassas Junction, Virginia and along the Bull Run stream bank. This specimen shows the face of the plate caved inward along with some disintegration of the left and right areas of the rim. The reverse lead
side shows many cracks and fissures and some loss of the lead located at both edges. Also missing are both of the iron wire loops, this was attributed to long ground and element exposure. A nice field relic that no doubt had seen early war action.
