This excavated eagle “breast” plate composed of a stamped brass front shell and lead filled back with two iron wire loops, was recovered near Richmond, Virginia. This example shows signs of edge damage (Dent) located at the 8 o’clock position on the face. The reverse of this plate shows the remaining two iron wire attachment loops along with some scratched in initials ( W K N ) and large underlined letter M.

The face of this plate exhibits a deep-dark patina with still sharp details. Both iron wire loops are intact with surface rust. White oxidation on the surface of the lead as well.
