The body of this shell is rusted with moderate to severe pitting throughout. There is also some loss of surface material were pitting is most severe. Iron sabot on base shows signs of rifling from being fired. The nose does not have any fuse or adapter.
This type shell was meant for use in the 10lb Parrott or 3-inch Ordnance rifle. As stated above it was recovered at Savage’s Station which was the site of one of the Seven Days Battles before Richmond in 1862.
