This shell stands approx. 10.25 inches high and has a coppering sabot with a pronounced ring just below the nose. The sabot shows signs of rifling. The body of the shell is smooth with just light pitting scattered throughout. The bottom center has a lathe dimple and the lathe chock is still present on the nose. Copper adapter for a paper time fuse is still present in the nose.
Painted on the shell in white ink is a “CS” in an oval and “3 5/8- INCH 3.67-READ PARROTT SHELL-FOUND COLD HARBOR- VA., DEC. 23-74 (kh) WT. 18 LB.” There is also a number “82” and at bottom just above the sabot is “SAFE.”
Shell was meant for use in 20 lb. rifle 3.67 calibers.
This shell is from the collection of the late Stan Phillips, well-known relic hunter and author.
