Nearly complete Confederate tin drum canteen dug from the Confederate winter camp at Fredericksburg, Va. Canteen meas. approx. 6.00 inches across. One side is crushed in like it was run over by a wagon or tractor. This has caused the sides to collapse in the affected area. The opposite side remains in tact. The spout is in the crushed area but it is still present, as is one of the side sling keepers. Piece is entirely covered with rust. When the piece was crushed some of the side seam separated. There is very little tin loss. Small typed paper label comes with the item and reads “CONFEDERATE TIN CANTEEN FOUND AT FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA WINTER CAMPSITE IN 1964.” Label has come loose due to rust on the surface of the canteen.
