MILITIA SABER BLADE FROM FREDERICKSBURG BATTLEFIELD

$275.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: R19584

Relic saber blade recovered from the area of Hamilton’s Crossing on the Fredericksburg battlefield. The blade is complete from the tang to the point. It meas. approx. 1.25 inches wide at the ricasso and is approx. 28.00 inches long from the tip of the tang to the point. There is an unstopped fuller running from the ricasso to within 6.00 inches of the point. The surfaces of the blade are dark with some light rust that gets a little heavier near the ricasso. One side of the blade has almost a 9.00 inch area that is free of discoloration and rust.

Attached at the tip is an old typed tag that reads “CONFEDERATE CAVALRY SABER FOUND AT HAMILTON’S CROSSING, FREDERICKSBURG, VA. ON OCTOBER 13, 1973. BATTLE FOUGHT ON DECEMBER 17, 1862. LOST BY J. E. B. STUART’S CAV.” Of course the date of the battle is wrong as the fight at Fredericksburg occurred on December 13th and not the 17th.
