US M1855 eagle insignia used to pin up the side of the black, high-crowned, regular army “Hardee” hat [famously worn by the Union “black hat” Iron Brigade during the Civil War.] Made of brass, this spread eagle insignia measures 2.5” x 1.75”. Exhibits dark coppery tarnish, missing reverse hook. Attractively mounted on red felt in black Riker box, 4.25 x 3.25”. Solid display piece.
