Cast brass spur that looks to be similar to the issue Civil War spur but thicker in appearance. Both yokes are present but only the left one has the strap keeper. Most of the keeper is broken off of the right yoke but what is left of it is marked “R.I.A.” for Rock Island Arsenal. The arm leading to the rowel is thicker and more rounded than on the Civil War version. Some of the iron rowel is present but most of it has rusted away.
This item was recovered in a Texas campsite.
