This item looks to be of stamped brass with a lead filled back. From the decoration it appears to be part of the letter “I” or “H” from a monogram of the type that were attached to militia cartridge boxes early in the war. This one still has two loops attached to the back.
With the item is an old typed tag that reads “INSIGNIA GLENDALE VIRGINIA 6/30/1862.”
