Four-sided, flanged, hand-made copper bolt measuring 7.875” in length, .5” in width. Sharp “US” stamping three inches above tip. Exhibits dark patina & minor nicks. Else VG, and striking. Comes with antique, handwritten note of authentication. USS Pawnee was a US Navy sloop of war, built and commissioned in 1859. Propelled by combined steam & sail, the ship carried an armament of eight 9pounders and two 12 pounders. She saw considerable action with the Atlantic blocking squadron, 1861-65, and served in the South Atlantic, 1867-69, before being converted into a hospital ship, eventually decommissioned in 1882. Fine CW naval memento.
