The body of this shell has been lightly cleaned and is in nice condition overall.
The nose is mostly smooth with only the lightest pitting. One side of the nose has a hole from deactivation of the shell. The taped base matches the nose in condition and has six very pronounced ribs running down its length. The knob at the very base of the shows some light wear. The papier-mâché sabot is long gone. In the nose is a brass Schenkl percussion fuse. The fuse is marked with patent information that is readable. The visible markings read “J. P. SCHENKL-PAT. OCT. 16 1861.”
This shell was meant for use in a 20 pound, 3.67-inch caliber rifle.
