Fired from a 4.62” 12 pounder smoothbore gun. Used a wood fuse plug. This type of shell was the most common spherical explosive shell used during the Civil War by Southern forces. This projectile has a nice smooth surface, and appears to be an early battlefield pickup. Recovered from Chancellorsville, Virginia.
