PATTERN 1839 OVAL US BELT PLATE AND PIECE OF LEATHER BELT FROM A CONFEDERATE CAMP AT WINCHESTER

$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: R20176

This Pattern 1839 oval US plate has a dark patina on the face with an over-layer of brown discoloration. The face has been bent over along the edges and a square has been cut out of the lower left corner for some unknown reason. Under the patina and discoloration the face appears to be in good smooth and free of any nicks.

The reverse of the plate has both “puppy-paw” style hooks with a piece of leather still attached. The tongue is gone. All the lead fill is present except for where the plate was cut. The underside still retains a good bit of surface dirt.

This item was recovered in a Confederate camp at Winchester, Virginia.
