Libby prison was a Confederate prison camp located in Richmond, Virginia. This is a 6-½ inch long by 1 ½ inch diameter wooden pin from the prison. One end is sawed and the other end is rough as if it has been broken. Attached to the pin is a 3-inch by 2-inch paper tag. Hand printed in capital letters with a fountain pen are: "1861 – PIN – 1865 / FROM TIMBER / OF / LIBBY PRISON". This was obtained many years ago from an old Pittsburgh museum. It still has the museum inventory number on the wood in white paint and also penciled on the back of the tag.
