LOADED MODEL 1861 ROUND BARRELED COLT NAVY DUG IN THE BLACK HILLS OF SOUTH DAKOTA

$650.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 31-1509

This is a relic conditioned Model 1861 Colt round barrel Navy revolver that was dug in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

The serial numbers on the revolver do not match and it appears as though the brass grip frame and triggerguard sections were added at some point. These pieces may have been added to the relic after being dug or they may have been added to the revolver before it was discarded or lost. The serial number on the grip frame is 125392 and the triggerguard is 202933. All the brass is fairly clean with light scattered discoloration. The triggerguard is marked “.36 CAL.”

All the metal surfaces are rusted and moderately to severely pitted. The barrel is 7 ½ inches long and is missing the front sight. The cylinder has five of the six chambers loaded and still spins freely. Five of the six nipples are present. The one missing nipple corresponds to the one empty chamber. The hammer toe is chipped and the hammer is frozen. The wedge pin is present. Most of the loading lever is gone and there is what looks to be a spot of glue or putty on both sides of the lower frame.

This is a good looking relic with an interesting association to a site connected to the Indian Wars.
