This hook arrangement is off the back of a Pattern 1839 oval US belt plate. There is photographic evidence of soldiers wearing these as belt plates. Often times Confederates. This one is complete with both arrow hooks and tongue. The brass has a light patina and the hooks are slightly bent.
Area of recovery is not known.
This item is part of a small group of relics we acquired that once belonged to the late Mac Mason who is well-known for his early work in the Civil War relic field.
