This rifle barrel is full length and is complete with both the front and rear sights. The original nipple is still present but badly worn. The barrel tang is also complete. Overall the item meas. approx. 33.00 inches long. This measurement does not include the tang.
Iron surface is dark and has light to moderate pitting throughout. There are no visible markings and all active rust has been removed.
With the item is a letter of authenticity from a previous seller attesting to the fact that the barrel was recovered at Stones River.
The battle of Stones River, Tennessee took place on December 31st 1862 and January 2, 1863. It resulted in a total of 24,645 casualties. The two armies under Rosecrans and Bragg numbered approx. 76,400 men.
