This bullseye style canteen was made by the Philadelphia Depot. It is complete except for the spout but the body is crushed. All three sling keepers are present and the edge seam is still closed all the way around. One side has a slit cut at center. Attached to the canteen over the slit is a label that reads “UNION ARMY CANTEEN / WILDERNESS, VIRGINIA / BATTALEFIELD / APRIL 1962.” The area around the tag and slit is dark and almost black as if the piece was in a fire. The opposite side has a small slit with a curled edge. Also there is an area of tin loss due to rust otherwise the body is in solid shape for being crushed.
