This Burnside carbine lockplate measures 6.5 inches with its hammer. The original digger's typed tag reads "Burnside Carbine Dug at Pickett's Mill Near Battle of New Hope Church, Georgia. Area where Wheeler's Cavalry made dismounted attack. 25 May 1864 Sherman's March to the Sea from Tenn. - Georgia" with many parts nearly illegible.
