This smooth-side canteen is of a pattern made by the New York Depot. Approximately 80% of the canteen remains. One side is complete while the other side is missing about 30%.
The spout is complete and has a hole drilled into one side by the soldier for better water flow.
Two of the three sling keepers remain. The one complete side of the canteen has two good sized dents but no holes. Items has surface rust throughout.
Attached to the complete side is an old yellow label with an ink inscription that reads “3D DIV. 5TH CORP HOSP FALMOTH, 4/59.”
Nice early relic.
