Shell has light surface pitting. Six ribs are very pronounced along the base. There is a little chipping in one spot where the body of the shell meets the base; otherwise the condition is very good. A deactivation hole is on the side just above the chipping. The brass Schenkl percussion fuse plug unscrews from the nose and is in great condition. The patent markings, reading “J.P. SCHENKL PAT. OCT. 16. 1861”, are clearly legible on the fuse plug. This shell was intended for use with a 30 pounder Parrott rifle.
