This loaded sidearm is a Civil War Model 1851 Navy Colt revolver in relic condition that was recovered in Virginia sometime after the war on the Richmond Battlefield at an unknown near ‘railroad tracks’. This very artifact is found featured in a magazine article titled “Starting Your First Civil War Collection” on page 72. The Colt sidearm is in remarkable relic condition and is complete with all components intact and its mechanics still strong. Retains its 7½” long octagonal barrel with good maker address on top flat, loading lever, wedge, unrebated cylinder with five of the six cambers still fully loaded exhibiting five, round .36 lead balls within. Cylinder has all nipples intact not capped with the scene gone and cannot read the serial #. Hammer indexes cylinder.

One-piece original wood grips exhibits a very rough surface with heavy erosion and cracking to the wood but the grips are still tight to the frame. A number of screws have been buggered and replaced. Likely picked up soon after the hostilities ended, revolver bears serial # 22928 easily visible on the iron frame, brass triggerguard, and buttplate. Frame even shows the “COLTS / PATENT” marking. Serial number indicates an early production piece from the 2nd / 3rd quarter of 1853. Gunmetal appears to have been cleaned of active rust and wears a dark gray mottled appearance. This Colt M1851 Navy revolver is an attractive, still loaded sidearm relic from the Richmond, Virginia area. Included is a color page with the featured written article from the magazine mentioned above. No further information available.
