RELIC BODY ARMOR

$125.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 343-32

A portion of Civil War body armor. Approx. 9” x 8.5” piece of iron that appears to be the upper left portion (over the heart) of the chest plate. The curved edge is the cut out for the left arm. A brass rivet remains where a shoulder strap would have connected the front and back plates. An unwieldy and uncommonly used item in the Civil War, this is nonetheless a very rare item. Recovered in the 1980s in a Federal camp in Stafford, Virginia. In dug condition, but is stable with no surface flaking.   [JET]
