STRUCK US MODEL 1858 BULLSEYE CANTEEN

$175.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 883-248

Canteen was recovered from City Point, Virginia, after the explosion on August 9, 1864, that was a result of Confederate sabotage. Confederate Secret Service agent John Maxwell has smuggled a bomb with a timed fuse aboard an ammunition barge. It caused a tremendous explosion that shook the city and caused much damage.

This is a dug relic, and so exhibits heavy rust throughout. Holes and cracks are present and indicate that this canteen was struck during battle.  Artifact retains two of the three iron sling bands, and it is missing the spout. Canteen measures approx. 8” in circumference. This would be a unique addition to any collection.  [sm]
