This is an example of an iron spherical shot that would have been fired from a cannon for the purpose of tearing into the sides of naval vessels. Used to target enemy crews, grapeshot contains small leaden balls packed into a canvas container, designed to disperse and destroy during naval action.

Grapeshot has some pitting and very slight surface rust.  Measures approx. 2 3/4" in diameter.  [sm]
