This “Y” design iron horse curry comb was recovered from City Point, Virginia, after the explosion on August 9, 1864, that was a result of Confederate sabotage. Confederate Secret Service agent John Maxwell has smuggled a bomb with a timed fuse aboard an ammunition barge. It caused a tremendous explosion that shook the city and caused much damage.

Maker’s mark reads, “KELLOGG’S “.  Item has a dark patina with slight surface rust.

Measures 8” long x 4 ¾” wide.   [SM]
