Zinc slider from a West Point-style Parrott percussion fuse. This is an example of a slider with a flanged head designed to rest on an iron ledge cast in the channel of the nose of the shell, improving its stability over earlier, disk-shaped sliders. Flanged head measures approximately 1 1/8” in diameter, while the body of the slider measures about ¾” in diameter. The entire slider measures about 1 ¼” in height, from the tip of the nipple, which is intact, to the base of the body. Sliders such as this one are rare to find. [JT]
