A damaged and rebuilt Hotchkiss Canister Round that was found in the James River at City Point outside of Richmond, where the explosion of several barges loaded with US military equipment took place on August 9, 1864.
Lead sabot with Hotchkiss Patent visible and slightly damaged from the explosion. About half of the tin body is damaged and missing. Top iron plate intact along with all the Hotchkiss canister. Nice display relic from this act of sabotage. [ws]
