Shears were recovered from City Point, Virginia, on the James River, after the explosion on August 9, 1864, that was a result of Confederate sabotage. Confederate Secret Service agent John Maxwell had smuggled a bomb with a timed fuse aboard an ammunition barge. It caused a tremendous explosion that shook the city and caused much damage.

Shears have surface rust and pitting but are solid. Measure approx. 6” long.     [SM]
